BAMS COURSE OVERVIEW & SYLLABUS

BAMS is one of the most popular courses in medical science after MBBS. A worldwide forum si also provided by World Health Organisation to promote traditional medicine systems like Ayurveda.The course duration is 5 years and 6 months in which 4 years and 6 months will be academic sessions and 1 year of compulsory internship.

The course is divided into 3 semesters, and each semester will be of 1.5 years, i.e., 1 year and 6 months. These 3 semesters are known as the three professional years. The first professional year will include physiology, anatomy, and history of the Ayurvedic system.

The second-year will consist of pharmacology and biology and the third and final year will contain ENT, surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, and skin.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA & ENTRANCE EXAM IN BAMS

To get into a prestigious college to study BAMS in India, you have to be eligible for it. The eligibility criteria are as follows:-

  • An aspiring candidate must have a minimum of 50%-60% in 10+2 or equivalent exams from a recognized board.
  • Biology, Physics, and Chemistry should be the main subjects in the 12th class.

ENTRANCE EXAM TO STUDY BAMS IN INDIA

To get enrolled in a BAMS course, students have to give an entrance test. Generally, you have to prepare for NEET as it is the most accepted entrance examination to get a BAMS college.There is an upper age limit for the general category candidates is 20 years whereas 4 years of relaxation is given to the reserved category. Also, there are few state-level exams conducted by State Government College for BAMS. The exams names are as follows:-

  • Kerala Engineering, Agriculture and Medical(KEAM)
  • Goa Common Entrance Test(GCET)

COUNSELING PROCESS FOR BAMS IN INDIA

After you have cleared the entrance exam, you have to take part in counseling. The counseling procedure is as follows:

BRIDGE COURSE AFTER BAMS

Bridge course after BAMS is provided by IGNOU. The program has 18 credit points which can be divided into 8 credits in theory and 10 credits in practical. The program has been started  since January 2017.

The program is a part of Ayushman Bharat scheme which runs by govt. of India and aims to improve the abilities and competencies of nurses and Ayurveda practitioners. The program is open for sponsored candidates from National Health Mission (NHM), MOHFW, Govt. of India through the State Health Mission/ State Government. The program was designed and developed with the funding of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GOI (NHM)

FUTURE SCOPE & EXPECTED SALARY

Ayurveda being a traditional medical science, emerged as an alternative to allopathy. Nowadays, people prefer traditional natural sources of medicine. Therefore, the demand for BAMS is increasing not just in India but all over the world. A candidate can opt for practicing after the BAMS course or go for higher studies and specialize in a particular branch. Apart from that, there are many career options after BAMS, like Pharmacist, Teaching, Counselor, Dietician, Panchkarma Practitioner.
