BDS stands for Bachelor of Dental Surgery. It is the only professional program on dental surgery in India. In medical science, the most demanded course after MBBS is BDS.
BDS is regulated by the Dental Council of India(DCI) and it is mandatory for students to register themselves with DCI to practice their profession. It is a 5-year undergraduate course that includes 4 years of classroom education and a 1-year compulsory paid internship. The students have to take two to three rotations in various departments in the 1-year internship tenure.
In the span of 5 years, you have to study subjects like Oral Pathology, Public Health Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, etc. There is major career scope after BDS, as one can get into a master’s degree(MDS- Masters of Dental Surgery), or prefer to work in a private or even at government sectors.

After you have cleared the entrance exam, you have to take part in counseling. The procedure of counseling is:

To attend counseling sessions, you have to register for them. To register, you have to give basic information, NEET admit card detail, and registration fees ranging between Rs. 1000 – Rs. 3000.
After filling the form, the counseling authority will announce a date and you have to verify your documents. To verify your documents, you have to be available at the counseling center with the original documents. If the counseling is taking place online, you have to follow the rules mentioned on the site.

As the first round of counseling starts, you have to log in to your dashboard and select the college you want to choose. After selecting the college, lock the option.
In this step, you have to select the college. You can select as many colleges as you want and have to choose them in the same order. After selecting the colleges, you have to lock the choice.
Remember, the locked choice cannot be changed in this round again.
Here, you will get the result and if you have been allotted a college, you can accept it and join the college. If you do not wish to get into that college, you can attend the 2nd counseling round.
The process of 2nd round of counseling is the same as the first. After the result announces, and if you had been allotted a college, you can join or if you want to get into some other college, you can attend the MOP-UP round.
MOP-UP round is the last round of counseling. The unfilled seats from the 1st and 2nd rounds are transferred to the offline MOP-UP round.
